2018 MMPL Season Overview

12 game schedule

EOS tournament available (excluding 10/12/14 A division teams)

Fall Ball available

U16 available

Ritchie Clayton (PONY Regional Rep) / 2018 PONY changes / MMPL Approach to PONY changes

Age Cutoff Date

  • MMPL for 2018:
    • 9U and above stay with 4/30 cutoff date -
    • 8U moves to 8/31 cutoff date

USA Bats

  • MMPL is officially moving to the new USA Bat standard for 2018 - bats need to be USA Bat stamped, or BBCOR certified -3.
  • It should be a point of emphasis for communities to make sure their umpires check bats prior to every game.

Pitch Counts

  • Pitch Smart standard being adopted
  • 1 day rest example = pitch Tuesday, Wednesday off, pitch Thursday
  • 2 days rest example = pitch Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off, pitch Friday

Dick's Sporting Goods

  • Blue Sombrero available as a free option
  • Bulk equipment ordering opportunities this year
  • Sponsorship and fundraising opportunities available for local leagues
  • League wide discount dates to come
  • Pro tip videos available on their website - broken down by sport…more to come as baseball season nears
  • Uniform ordering available
  • May try and set up bat demo day - set up a day at an inside facility to allow for putting bats through their trial.More to come on this.

Team Registration Process and Fees

  • Team registrations will close March 11
  • Same fees
  • $10 off (per team) if POSTMARKED before 3/1
  • 3/1 - 3/11 postmark = regular fees
  • $40 per team late fee for registrations postmarked after 3/11, once the team is approved
  • Putting the information forward now so communities can plan their registration deadlines accordingly.
  • We're setting the dates up to try and make sure we can get divisions formed so there isn't last minute scrambling at the scheduling meeting, based on feedback we've received the past few years.

Winter Workout Opportunity

  • Prep Stars facility available for winter workouts, for interested communities - contact Don Johns

MMPL Code of Conduct Implementation

  • See handout (attachment)
  • Attempt to curb behavior
  • Need help from league communities to help enforce this standard

Score reporting and Rainout Rescheduling Issues

  • Communities to work with coaches to handle make up games for rainouts

Trophy Pickup

  • If you won a trophy last year and want it, get with Don Johns
  • 1st and 2nd place teams in all divisions get trophies

Needs for fields - MMPL Tourney and Fall Ball

  • Holt has helped in the past
  • Jeremy Mourey volunteered Williamston to help with fall ball fields

MMPL U16 and Fall Ball

  • Looking to keep it going
  • Starts early June - to allow for high school season to end
